LETTUCE

LET THERE BE LETTUCE!

I had such awesome results from my very first hydroponics adventure with a Bibb Lettuce, ( a leafy variety), that I'm definitely going to venture out into some other varieties!

My first lettuce crops for 2014 will be a Black Seeded Simpson variety and a beautiful Ruby Red.  I will of course be using Masterblend formula (10/10/5) for lettuce

I like the Black Seeded Simpson variety, because it's still a leafy lettuce, but much tighter than the Bibb variety.  It's sweet and tender at all stages.  And of Course the Ruby Red is beautiful red color and adds a great visual to any salad bowl.

Germination yield is expected at least at: 76%-85%
Number of days to germinate: 5- to 7
Days to maturity: 45 days.

On Jan 3rd, 2014, 22 - 2" net pots, with 2 seeds per pot, for the Ruby Red Lettuce.
I'll start them as do with most everything, in a 2" net pot, pre soaked piece of rockwool, and under the lights for 24hours  x 10 days.

As always, I'll keep you posted with lots of photos and comments at regular intervals.
